대우조선해양 인도네시아 잠수함 2번함도 성공적으로 인도

- 인도네시아 국방부로부터 수주한 3척 중 2번함도 성공적 건조 완료

대우조선해양이 국내 최초로 해외에서 수주한 인도네시아 잠수함 2번함도 성공적으로 건조하며 명실상부한 대한민국 잠수함 분야 최강자임을 증명했다.


대우조선해양(대표이사 정성립)은 지난 2011년 인도네시아 국방부로부터 수주한 1,400톤급 잠수함 3척 가운데 2번함 인도식을 25일 거제 옥포조선소에서 가졌다.



인도식에는 리아미잘드 리아꾸두(Ryamizard Ryacudu) 인도네시아 국방부 장관과 대우조선해양 정성립 사장 등 내외빈 100여명이 참석했다. 특히 잠수함을 운용하게 될 인도네시아 해군 아데 수빤디(Ade Supandi) 참모총장과 대한민국 해군, 방위사업청 관계자도 행사에 참석해 양국 간 방산협력에도 의미를 더했다.


행사에 참석한 방위사업청 전제국 청장은“오늘 인도되는 인도네시아 잠수함은 한국과 인도네시아 양국 간의 긴밀한 방산협력의 상징이자 결실”이라며“국제 방산협력은 단순히 무기체계 수출에 목표가 있는 것이 아니라 군사력 건설의 경험과 노하우를 우방국들과 공유해 주변지역의 안정에 기여하고 함께 잘사는 세상을 건설하는데 궁극적인 목표를 두고 있다”고 말했다.


이날‘아르다데달리(ARDADEDALI)’함으로 명명된 잠수함은 1988년 독일로부터 기술을 전수받아 대우조선해양이 독자 개발한 대한민국 최초 수출형 잠수함으로, 전장 61m, 1,400톤급 규모다.


40명 승조원을 태우고 10,000해리(1만8520Km)거리인 부산항에서 미국 LA항까지 중간기항 없이 왕복 운항할 수 있어 잠수함의 생명인 뛰어난 수중 작전능력을 갖췄다. 특히 설계ㆍ생산ㆍ시운전 등 모든 건조과정을 자체 기술로 수행해 조선기술의 최고봉으로 평가받는 잠수함 건조 기술력을 다시 한번 입증했다.


대우조선해양은 이미 지난 2003년과 2009년 두 차례에 걸친 인도네시아 잠수함 창정비 사업과 2017년 잠수함 초도함을 성공적으로 건조한 기술력을 인정받아 올해 2월 인도네시아 잠수함 창정비 사업을 추가로 수주했다.


또한 이러한 프로젝트를 수행하며 쌓은 기술력과 신뢰도를 기반으로 인도네시아 해군과 오랜 상호 협력관계를 이어오고 있으며, 향후 인도네시아 차기 잠수함 수주에 대한 기대감도 높아지고 있다.

한편 인도네시아 3번함은 옥포조선소에서 블록형태로 건조후 대우조선해양의 기술지원 아래 인도네시아 국영조선소인 PT.PAL 조선소에서 최종 조립해 인도될 예정이다. 향후 3척의 잠수함은 인도네시아 해상안보 및 영해수호 임무를 수행하며 최소 30년간 인도네시아 해군 작전에 투입된다.

Rivertrace launches Smart ESM Wash Water Monitor for Scrubbers

 

Rivertrace, an ISO9001 Quality-Assured Company and market leader with over 30 years’ experience of water monitoring, launched its innovative SMART ESM monitor at the Sulphur Cap 2020 Conference, Awards and Exhibition being held 17-18 April in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

 

With the pending sulphur cap regulations in sight, a popular solution for shipowners to ensure compliance is to install an exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS), also known as scrubbers. Wet scrubber systems use wash water to remove the pollutants from the exhaust gas, and the wash water being discharged must be monitored at all times to ensure it is within the limits set by the regulating body.

 

The Smart ESM developed by Rivertrace, is a wash water monitor that is suitable for both the inlet and outlet of a wet exhaust gas cleaning system, measuring and recording PAH, Turbidity, Temperature and pH, on open-loop, closed-loop and hybrid scrubber systems. The Smart ESM is fully compliant with MEPC 259(68) and provides reliable information to ensure compliance with the worldwide SOx limits.


The Smart ESM has a large 10” touch screen display which provides a flexible user interface and data is relayed to the ship’s main control system via an Ethernet connection and 4-20 mA analogue outputs and has the ability to interact with other systems using Modbus protocols. The monitor provides onscreen graphs showing either live data or historic hourly, daily or weekly figures. Data can be emailed automatically anywhere in the world for accurate record keeping. The monitor also provides automatic cleaning of the optical path to ensure continual accuracy.

 

The Smart ESM has been developed to support all scrubber systems and include a broad selection of inbuilt analogue and digital outputs, making Rivertrace the ‘Partner for Compliance’ for all OEMs. Rivertrace adopt a truly flexible and accommodating approach to how they work with, and service, each partnership with the OEMs, taking into consideration the differing designs, sizes and target markets of each supplier.

MAN Diesel & Turbo Scoops Major Container Vessel Order

Company to fit MSC newbuildings with both main and auxiliary engines


MAN Diesel & Turbo has won the order from MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company for 11 × 23,000 TEU container vessels equipped with 11 × MAN B&W 11G95ME-C9.5 main engines.


Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) will construct six of the vessels while Daewoo Shipping Marine Engineering (DSME) will construct the remainder.


Bjarne Foldager, Vice President – Sales & Promotion, Two-Stroke Business – MAN Diesel & Turbo, said: “This order underlines the positive, long-term business relationship between MSC and MAN Diesel & Turbo. It’s a significant order that cements our strong position within the large containership segment where the G-type is the market’s preferred engine.”


The ‘G’ prefix before an MAN B&W engine means it has a design with an ultra-long stroke that reduces engine speed, thereby paving the way for ship designs with unprecedented high-efficiency.


G-type engines’ longer stroke results in a lower rpm for the engine driving the propeller. This lower optimum engine speed allows the use of a larger propeller and is, ultimately, significantly more efficient in terms of engine propulsion. Together with an optimised engine design, this means that the MSC newbuildings will enjoy a reduced fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions.


MAN Diesel & Turbo reports that, to date, it has 71 × G95 engines on order of which 23 have already entered service.


Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI-EMD) will construct the ME-C engines for SHI, while Doosan Engine will construct those for DSME. The final vessel in the series is due for delivery by March 15, 2020.


MAN Diesel & Turbo has also won the order to supply the GenSets for each vessel in the form of 3 × MAN 9L32/40 + 2 × MAN 6L32/40 units, all to be constructed by STX Engine in Korea.

 Cathelco provide MGPS systems for Ocean Valiant


Cathelco have won an order to supply marine growth prevention systems (MGPS) for the Ocean Valiant, a semi-submersible drilling unit operated by Diamond Offshore.


The Ocean Valiant is currently operating in the Janice Field located in the Central North Sea, approximately 175 miles east-south-east of Aberdeen.


The systems provided by Cathelco will protect the pipework connected to port and starboard seachests against blockages caused by the growth of barnacles and mussels which can impair the efficiency of associated equipment.


This will be achieved by installing copper and aluminium anodes in two electrolysis tanks with pipework connected to the seachests in order to dose the water flowing through the system.


In operation, the anodes are fed with a low impressed electrical current from a control panel resulting in the production of copper and aluminium ions. The copper ions flow through the seawater pipework system and produce an environment where the larvae of barnacles and mussels do not settle or grow. At the same time, the aluminium ions form an anti-corrosive layer on the internal surfaces of pipes.


The concentration of copper is extremely small, around six parts per billion, but effective in preventing marine growth, without harming the wider marine environment.


“Cathelco systems have proved their effectiveness in preventing marine growth on semi-submersibles and offshore platforms operating in the North Sea and around the world”, said Scott Rose of Cathelco Grampian, based near Aberdeen to serve the Scottish offshore oil industry.


Cathelco are the world’s leading manufacturer of MGPS systems for ships and offshore structures with a record of more than 50,000 installations over a period of 60 years.

 

The company also produce impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems used to protect the underwater surfaces of offshore platforms against corrosion. These are also installed on offshore supply vessels, product carriers and VLCC’s to safeguard hull integrity.

Longitude concludes pre-decommissioning plan contract for PTTEP, with a cost-effective conversion solution


Longitude Engineering (Longitude), the specialist engineering consultancy and part of the London Offshore Consultants (LOC) Group, has developed a cost effective decommissioning barge concept for the safe removal of small oil and gas platforms for the PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), a subsidiary of the Thai state owned oil company. 


The primary aim of the works was to develop a viable and cost-effective alternative to conventional ‘reverse installation’ through the use of heavy lift crane barges, for the removal of the topsides and jackets. The focus being the removal of 90-100 of PTTEP’s minimum facilities platform assets in the Gulf of Thailand, which have topside weights up to 800 tonnes and jacket dry weight up to 1000 tonnes. 

Longitude’s contract was to deliver the conceptual naval, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering, along with outline operational procedures, schedule and CAPEX & OPEX costing for the new removal concept.


The technical solution: 

The developed solution is a barge concept that utilises reverse float-over and on-board lifting methods to remove both the topside and substructure utilising the same vessel. 


For the development of the primary float-off lifting system, Longitude partnered with German-based hydraulics specialist, Bosch Rexroth, to develop a heave compensated hydraulic lifting and skidding system.


The resulting vessel design can accommodate the removal of different types of topsides and jackets, without modifying the barge, from removal preparation stages, lifting, topside skidding and securing to underwater disposal for the substructure and load in to a disposal yard for the topside. It also has the ability to accommodate 60 operational and marine crew for a period of up to 40 days.


The engineering performed to support the chosen technical solution comprised the Naval design, the definition of the operational weather windows, the development of associated vessel layouts, the Structural design, the Mechanical systems design, the Marine system design and the Electrical systems definition.


Delivery also included various philosophies covering aspects from the Health and Safety to material handling and Flag/Rules/Codes and standards analysis. 


Finally, a full set of preliminary operational procedures were developed for lifting operations, transport, load-in along with associated operational schedules and associated CAPEX and OPEX costings.


The schedule and cost considerations:

PTTEP is currently in discussion with Thailand’s Department of Mineral Fuels (DMF), the government body regulating offshore oil and gas operations, which will sanction the decommissioning work, for the start of their removal programme which is due to commence in the coming years.


With the implementation of new decommissioning regulations, all concessionaires must submit the decommissioning plan with cost estimation to DMF for financial security placement at the first stage. The evaluation and reporting on the expected schedule and associated cost for the operations being a critical part of the decommissioning process, a cost effective decommissioning barge is favoured.


According to Longitude’s lead engineer Jean-Baptiste Meier: “By developing this time and cost-saving solution, we hope to create a wider awareness among contractors within the region in order that they may adopt similar methods in the removal of multi -platform fields.”


He added: “The South East Asian fields present many similar small platforms where innovative thinking can be used to make an economy of scale in the removal operations”.


It is crucial to clearly define the standards and procedures for the decommissioning work in the Gulf of Thailand – to ensure that the solution is not only the most innovative and cost-efficient but also environmental friendly.

While pending approval from DMF, PTTEP has logged a petty patent for this solution.”

Scorpio Bulkers Inc. Announces the Refinancing of an Ultramax Vessel


Scorpio Bulkers Inc. (NYSE:SALT) (“Scorpio Bulkers,” or the “Company”) announced today that the Company has entered into a financing transaction in respect of one of the Company’s Ultramax vessels with an unaffiliated third party in Japan.


As part of the transaction, the Company will sell a 2015 Japanese built Ultramax dry bulk vessel, SBI Tango, for a consideration of $19.0 million and then lease it back from the buyer through a five-year bareboat charter agreement at a rate of $5,400 per day. If converted to floating interest rates, based on the expected weighted average life of the transaction, the equivalent cost of financing at current swap rates would be LIBOR + 1.73%.


The transaction also provides the Company with options to repurchase the vessel beginning on the third anniversary of the sale until the end of the bareboat charter agreement.   This transaction, which shall be treated as a financial lease for accounting purposes, increases the Company’s liquidity by approximately $10.3 million after repayment of the vessel’s existing loan.

Stena Drilling Ltd. receives first DNV GL MPD class notation 


DNV GL has revised its classification rules for Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) systems and introduced two new class notations DRILL(MPD) and DRILL(MPD READY). Stena Drilling Ltd. (SDL) is the first drilling contractor to receive the notation Drill(MPD) for their harsh environment drillship Stena Carron.


Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) is an adaptive drilling process that allows greater control of the annular pressure profile throughout the wellbore. This can help operators drill new wells safely and more efficiently and in some cases to drill previously undrillable wells. Since 2013, DNV GL’s offshore standard DNVGL-OS-E101 Drilling Plant has covered the design and commissioning requirements for MPD systems.


“Stena Drilling Ltd. is continuously seeking opportunities for end customers and operators and by obtaining the DRILL(MPD) notation for our vessels we believe we can demonstrate to operators that there is a robust, efficient, fully integrated and safe system in place and ready to carry out Deepwater MPD operations,” says Alex Bruce, Stena Drilling Ltd. MPD project manager. “The certification process assessed all the components roles within the system in an operational environment as well as the effect on existing systems on board, ensuring that the isolation, redundancy and safety systems met the standards of the new notation. We are very proud to have been the first offshore drilling contractor to gain this notation and it is a clear sign of our commitment to conform to the highest available quality standards.”


The Stena Drilling Ltd. drillship Stena Carron was the first vessel to receive the DRILL(MPD) from DNV GL and has already successfully drilled two ultradeep wells with its DNV GL certified MPD system. MPD certification to the MPD READY notation is also planned for two more SDL drillships, Stena IceMax and Stena DrillMax.


“Over the last few years we have seen significant advances in the drilling sector,” says Ernst Meyer, Senior Vice President, Director of Offshore Classification at DNV GL – Maritime. “With MPD for example, it is possible to drill through more narrow pressure margin formations and to drill more efficiently than with traditional methods. The new revision to our drilling facilities standard introduces a barrier-management approach which facilitates the certification of the most advanced drilling technologies of today and the future. Additionally, we have integrated software simulator testing into regular system certification, which improves our ability to efficiently evaluate the total performance of the control system.”

BIMCO applauds new IMO emissions-strategy


"The IMO has done something no one has done before: set an absolute target for emission reductions for an entire industry. It is a landmark achievement in the effort to reduce emissions, and something that every other industry should look to for inspiration," says Lars Robert Pedersen, BIMCO Deputy Secretary General and delegate at the IMO meeting.


BIMCO is very satisfied with the Green House Gas (GHG) strategy adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at the Marine Environment Protection Committee on April 13. The strategy outlines a target to reduce GHG emissions by at least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008 while pursuing efforts towards phasing them out.


Lars Robert Pedersen calls the target ambitious, but not impossible: "In BIMCO we believe that the industry can deliver on this target – even if we don't exactly know how, yet," he says.


BIMCO is the largest shipping association in the world, with around 2000 members across the industry, representing 56% of the world's tonnage.


"The strategy shows that there is only one road ahead, and that is the road towards decarbonisation. The strategy reinforces existing IMO regulations to enhance the energy efficiency of ships and sets out the long-term goals. This will guide the development of new technology and the design of new ships," Pedersen says.


Pedersen points out that the industry is already well under way. Emissions from shipping peaked in 2008, and emissions from shipping have already been decoupled from the growth in the world economy.


"Now we have to focus on the mid-to-long term. We have to find the technology and procedures that will drive us towards zero GHG emissions," Lars Robert Pedersen says.  


BIMCO sees zero carbon emissions as a realistic goal for the second half of this century, but investments in research and technology are required to get there.

세계해사대학(WMU) 재학생, 한국선급 본사 방문

  - 한국선급의 역할과 최신 기술 현황을 소개하는 시간 가져 -

 

한국선급(KR, 회장 이정기)은 세계해사대학(World Maritime University, WMU) 재학생 방문단이 지난 11일 부산에 위치한 한국선급 본사를 방문했다고 밝혔다.

 

이번 방문은 해양수산부가 매년 우리나라 해사산업의 발전상을 소개하기 위해 실시하는 초청행사의 일환으로, 국제기구와 세계 각국의 해운·조선분야에서 중추적인 역할을 하고 있는 WMU 재학생들에게 한국선급을 비롯한 부산항만공사, 테크로스 등 우리나라 굴지의 해사산업 현장을 소개하며 국내 해사산업의 국제 영향력을 높이고 있다.

 

가나, 미얀마, 필리핀 등 15개국 출신의 재학생 18명과 인솔교수 1명으로 구성된 방문단은 이날 한국선급 본사를 찾아 한국선급의 기술개발 현황 등을 비롯하여 해사산업에서의 선급의 중요성을 이해하는 시간을 가졌으며, 현재 한국선급에서 근무하고 있는 WMU 선배들과 네트워킹을 이어나갔다. 

 

WMU는 국제해사기구(IMO)가 해사전문인력 양성을 위해 1983년 스웨덴 말뫼에 설립한 해사분야 대학으로, 주로 전 세계 국가의 해양분야 공무원 및 해양관련 단체 임직원을 대상으로 석·박사 과정을 운영하고 있다.

 

한편 한국선급은 지난 2011년부터 WMU와 협약을 맺고, 자체 개발한 국제 해사 협약 전산화 프로그램인 ‘KR-CON’을 WMU 교직원과 학생의 교육 및 연구에 사용할 수 있도록 매년 기증하는 등 WMU와 교류하며 해사전문인력의 양성에 지속적인 기여를 해오고 있다.

AET Tankers and Shell enter into time charter arrangements for two LNG fuelled Aframax tankers


Today in London, AET Inc. Limited and Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited formalised arrangements for the long-term charter of AET's two newbuild LNG dual-fuelled Aframax tankers.


AET's two 113,000 dwt vessels are currently being built by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea and are due for delivery from Q3 of 2018. Today's arrangements will see Shell take both vessels on a long-term charter commencing in Q4 of this year. When operating in gas mode, the two AET tankers will emit up to 30% less CO2, 85% less NOx, 99% less SOx and 95% less particular matters, making them among the cleanest Aframax tankers in the market.


Speaking at a ceremony to commemorate the time charter conclusion, AET's President and CEO, Capt. Rajalingam Subramaniam, said:

"As a world leading owner and operator of petroleum vessels, we have a responsibility to embrace the future of sustainable shipping. AET strives to proactively adapt and embrace the opportunities that emerge from the industry and global environment. Therefore, we took the decision to begin building LNG dual-fuelled Aframax vessels some time ago and these two Aframaxes are amongst the first to take their place in our global fleet. As part of the MISC Group and its Sustainability Agenda, AET upholds our environmental stewardship by consistently evaluating greener solutions, and our investment in the LNG dual-fuelled Aframax tankers is a further tribute to this.



"Shell is a longstanding and highly valued partner, and we have been working together on these time charter arrangements for quite some time. The fact that Shell has agreed to charter our new ships is a true testament to their commitment to thriving throughout the energy transition and will encourage AET to forge ahead with our commitment to operate a future fleet, where at least half of our ships are fuelled with LNG."​


Both Malaysian flagged vessels will be fitted with twin LNG tanks, allowing them to trade worldwide on LNG and with LNG more readily available now, this makes them ideally suited to operate in the 0.1% sulphur SECA regions of North America, Northwest Europe and Asia, and ensures full compliance with the incoming 2020 sulphur cap.


Mark Quartermain, Vice President, Shell Crude Trading, commented:

"These two LNG fuelled vessels will help Shell Trading move crude, principally in the Atlantic basin. LNG is a credible marine fuel and will play an important role in our fleet as we introduce cleaner and more efficient vessels. As emissions standards tighten we continue to work with forward thinking companies like AET to support lower emission transportation solutions."


Also present at today's ceremony was AET's Chairman and President/Group CEO of MISC Bhd (AET's parent company), Yee Yang Chien, who said:

"It is particularly apt that today's charter arrangements ceremony is taking place in London just after the International Maritime Organisation has concluded a further round of discussions on limiting and reducing ships' emissions. The MISC Group is working to a Sustainability Agenda that ensures we protect and sustain the environment we work within; support the communities we work for, and do all we possibly can to protect our planet for future generations. Today's arrangement to charter our first set of LNG fuelled Aframaxes to Shell is another step on that pathway".



In June 2017, AET was awarded a contract to build and operate two LNG dual-fuelled DP2 Offshore Loading Shuttle Tankers for service in oilfields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf of the North Sea, Norwegian Sea and the southern Barents Sea as well as on the UK Continental Shelf. When operational, these ships are expected to be amongst the world's first LNG fuelled DP shuttle tankers and the most energy efficient. Today's arrangement builds on that achievement and cements AET's position in the LNG dual-fuel market. It marks a further step in the company's ability to offer innovative and environmentally responsible solutions to its global customers.
