RS class: new multipurpose icebreaking supply vessel named after Yevgeny Primakov

The naming ceremony of a multipurpose icebreaking supply vessel for production platforms "Yevgeny Primakov" constructed under the survey of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) at Arctech Helsinki Shipyard (a corporate member of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) was held on 3 February 2018 in St. Petersburg.

The official ceremony was attended by Dmitry Rogozin, Deputy Prime Minister of RF Government; Victor Olersky, Deputy Minister of Transport – Head of Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport; Ole Myklestad, Production Director of "Sakhalin Energy"; Alexey Rakhmanov, President of JSC "USC"; Sergey Frank, President and CEO of PAO "Sovcomflot". The Register was represented by Sergey Kulikov, Deputy Director General.

"Yevgeny Primakov" closes a 4-ship series built to the RS class under a long-term agreement on collaboration between PAO "Sovcomflot" and "Sakhalin Energy" to operate in the Sea of Okhotsk.

The ship's design and equipment enable efficient safe operation for offshore oil-and-gas platforms, including those operating in ice conditions: prevent ice ridges and heavy ice floes, break off the ice generated, etc. The ship is intended to provide the year-round stand-by duty, promptly respond to potential emergencies and, if necessary, perform a range of underwater engineering and repair works. Two Azipod-type azimuth thrusters with aggregate capacity of 15 MW will increase icebreaking capability when operating in the ice up to 1,5 m thick covered with 20 cm of snow. Relatively small "Yevgeny Primakov" can accommodate 70 people (except for crew), and in case of emergency – up to 150 people.

The multipurpose icebreaking supply vessel "Yevgeny Primakov" will be operated under the flag of the Russian Federation, the port of registry being St. Petersburg. Crew – 26 persons.
